As many of you know, we're about to welcome a little girl into our family. Since I didn't have to carry her in my belly for nine months, it's been a joyful time for me because all the anxiety of the first born melted away this time. I've really enjoyed the excitement and anticipation. And I know we're capable o the patience and love it takes to raise a kid.
One of the things that got me through that first tough year with Caleb were the mixes I'd listen to whenever he had me up. If it was 3 in the morning feeding him, or 8 pm washing his bottles, I soon realized I needed the repetitiveness of mixes to calm my nerves and get me through the moment.
So in anticipation of some odd listening hours, I'm working on some mixes this week. This one is titled after Frank Thomas, the White Sox slugger that wore number 35, and also the age I turned the day I started putting this mix together back in November. It took me this long to finish it because of how ridiculously good Kanye's Runaway is. I just couldn't find a song that made sense to put after that nine minute masterpiece.
Then I heard James Blake's The Wilhelmina Scream last week and immediately knew it was delicate but powerful enough to keep the mix going.
I also love how this mix is bookended by songs called Home, allowing the loose story in my mind come full circle.
This mix isn't full of hits. It's more reflective of those late nights where you can't turn off your mind. It also pairs well with premium Belgium ales.
